Baskin Engineering 156 is a 35-seat distance education multimedia classroom with 2 cameras and 3 monitors. It contains numerous types of A/V equipment including a fax machine, Document Camera, SmartBoard, VCR, Audio Cassette, Cable TV, and 2 computers (PC & Mac) with web and presentation software.

Distance Education at UCSC involves two-way live, 'real-time' video and audio of your classroom with participants in an off-campus location. Media Services provides two rooms, Baskin Engineering Rooms 156 and 318, that contain the high-quality, compressed video and audio technology that this technology requires. In some situations, you share your classroom teaching with students at a remote classroom. Guest lecturers and professors normally not able to attend a lecture due to travel constraints may be brought into your curriculum.

UCSC's Distance Education rooms are networked with all the University of California and California State University campuses, in addition to those at the Office of the President in Oakland and the Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories. Our Distance Education room is capable of connecting with other sites around the world through ISDN connections.
